Charges stand against Desai in Las Vegas hepatitis C case

A state court judge says a former Las Vegas doctor at the center of a 2007 hepatitis outbreak will face all 28 felony criminal charges that a grand jury handed up against him almost two years ago.

Clark County District Court Judge Valerie Adair said Thursday that despite protests by an attorney for former Dr. Dipak Desai, the indictment meets legal and constitutional requirements.

Defense attorney Richard Wright argued the charges against Desai and two former clinic nurse-anesthetists are so vague and confusing that it's impossible to tell what acts the state alleges were illegal.

Adair says jurors should be able to understand what crimes are alleged.

Prosecutors say Desai cut corners to save money so much at his clinics that patients were infected with incurable hepatitis C.
