Shock jock Howard Stern can’t be muzzled, and he didn’t mince words when he returned to his Sirius radio show Monday to talk about his unhappy experiences while filming “America’s Got Talent” here at the Palazzo last week.
“I’m really worn out. It was very draining,” he declared, complaining about the long 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. shooting schedule. “Sometimes we’d start as early as 7 a.m. I got one hour by the pool the day I arrived, and I got one night out for dinner with Beth [Ostrosky, his wife], her brother and his girlfriend. It was crazy. That was it. I’m in a beautiful hotel in a wild city, and all I see is the inside of my room. I might as well have been in Guam. I got one break of 2 1/2 hours the entire time, and I had to take a nap, it was so emotionally draining.”
Howard said he was supposed to take a private plane back to New York on Saturday night, but plans went awry and he wound up unable to leave; instead, he went home Sunday during the day. “That got me really pissed. We didn’t even get to party Saturday night,” he complained. “I had to force myself to stay awake to get back onto my East Coast schedule and be on the air early.”
The King of All Media also moaned that the 31-day shooting schedule he’d signed on for will now run longer than planned, but he also made two startling revelations about filming here. “We picked the Top 48 acts for the show, but it was all very weird. It’s really tough to tell them they’re going home. They have a full-time psychiatrist there to help those who took it so poorly. I saw everything from tears to anger.”
THANK YOU, NYT: I have to say thanks to the New York Times with a shout-out to its “Money” issue in Sunday’s paper. An article about the history of wealth in America titled “Great Moments in 1% History” noted that in 1984, my “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous” made its TV debut, changing the way Americans saw success on television.
5K TV RACER: Rebecca Meyer, who became the Season 8 at-home champion of NBC’s “The Biggest Loser” by losing a whopping 139 pounds, is hitting it hard in the valley for the Las Vegas 5K race Saturday. She’s staying at Silverton Casino Lodge, one of the sponsors along with Pinkberry Yogurt, for the race. Her time here will be an inspiration to all. “It’s already been a really busy year,” said Rebecca, who has raced in seven marathons, triathlons and 5K races in 2012.
After the Las Vegas weekend race, she heads to Oklahoma, New York and Seattle for more. “The ‘Biggest Loser’ experience was just the beginning for me. I’ve learned a lot about myself and training in the past two years. The journey of lifelong health and fitness has no end. There is no being ‘fixed.’ ” She and her fiance Daniel Wright, an alumni from Seasons 7 and 8 of “Biggest Loser,” train others through their company FitnessWrightNow.
ROYAL HATMAKER: From Lady Gaga to Kate Middleton, who became Britain’s Duchess of Cambridge when she married Prince William, royal hat-maker Philip Treacy has had his hands in their hair. He made his first visit to Las Vegas over the weekend to show his Spring and Summer collection at Bags Belts & Baubles in the Wynn. Fans of the milliner turned out in force, including newlyweds Conor and Irene Cruise on their honeymoon from Ireland, his home country. Philip’s hats also have adorned Madonna, Sarah Jessica Parker and Britain’s Princess Beatrice.
Philip autographed his creations snapped up by the ladies of Las Vegas, including a large group of former showgirls from the Tropicana and Dunes revue shows. Our thanks to Glenn Pinkerton of the Las Vegas News Bureau for his photos. Philip told me that he designs his unique bonnets to fit the face and personality of his clients. “I have to make everybody who wears my hats feel like a million dollars.” His creations sell worldwide, and he has a staff of 27 people sewing his designs. That’s still not enough to keep up with the ever-increasing demand!
ARETHA’S R-E-S-P-E-C-T: The undisputed Queen of Soul , Aretha Franklin, was last in Las Vegas three years ago (at George Wallace’s comedy show at the Flamingo on June 17, 2009) and with a rare performance in nearby Primm. I can’t remember any time in the past decade she played the Strip. Now one of the most influential and important female voices in music history is set to play the Colosseum at Caesars Palace on July 15. Tickets go on sale Friday. Knowing Aretha’s fear of air travel, I’m assuming that she’ll travel by train from her home in Detroit.
NEW ALBUM: Lynyrd Skynyrd, who have their barbecue spot at Excalibur, released their first album today since September 2009’s “God & Guns,” their highest Billboard debut since 1977. The new CD “Last of a Dying Breed” reunited the band with producer Bob Marlette. The Southern Rock royals who have notched more than 2 million downloads of their “Sweet Home Alabama” ring tone tour this summer in Europe and North America and then play and perform the new CD on their fall visit to Excalibur.
JOINT ANNIVERSARIES: To celebrate the Forum Shops’ 20th anniversary at Caesars Palace and the 65th milestone of Las Vegas News Bureau, the two have joined together to commemorate the milestones. Memorable moments of Las Vegas history captured by LVNB’s photographers who often service Vegas DeLuxe, are on exhibit near the Fountain of the Gods near the Atlantis show and aquarium.
QUITE A PARTY: It cost Atlanta Falcons defensive end Ray Edwards $15,000 to fly two of his fans to Las Vegas for a lavish weekend for winning his “Dare to Be Different” contest. TMZ confirmed that Chantel Snow and a friend were treated to a stay at MGM Grand, tickets for the Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Miguel Cotto fight, a private Hard Rock Hotel cabana, meals, a VIP nightclub booth and a private limo with driver for their entire stay.

Comedy impressionist Houston MacPherson premieres at the Clarion Hotel’s Wolf Theater. Leftover Cuties have a three-night run at Book & Stage in the Cosmopolitan. Hypnotist Marshall Sylver and acrobatic wheel artist Chris Lashua from Cirque Mechanics perform poolside at Tropicana to launch Seacrets Dead Sea beauty mud and water products for its spa.

What an incredible sense of entitlement Howard Stern has! In a time where people are struggling to get and keep jobs, this jerk is sniveling because he has to sit on his butt and watch entertainers and have people wait on him hand and foot.
He is completely out of touch with the average person. I used to think he was funny, now I find his behaviour revolting. He is the kind of celebrity that is constantly reminding everyone "Don't you know WHO I AM?".
you are only hearing a portion of what Stern said. When he agreed to do AGT he stressed that his radio show holds his highest priortity and that the AGT schedule needs to comply with his radio one and if they couldn't accommodate that then he wasn't the best fit for the position.
Stern is making one last grab at being relevant and it will neuter his reputation. Hardcore Stern fans will be disappointed at how un-shocking he will be on the show. The landscape has shifted since he was King in the 90's...
Big John...Then he needs to lighten the load and quit AGT or shut his trap.
His contract with Sirius paid him several hundred million. Prior to that he was already a multimillionaire. The reality is Howard can sit back and do nothing if he pleases. This was his decision to do the show. Just asinine. girlygirl is 100% correct.

C'mon, Howard, lots of folks have worked harder than that and for millions of $s less.
He changed when his movie came out in '97 and got a divorce. Prior to that he at least had SOME things in common with his audience. Post divorce dating a model and partying in the Hamptons...comedy suffered.
That's when his stories had an everyday man feel. He's no longer an everyday man. Hopefully he realizes Beth is not with him for his looks.
I guess he forgot what's it's like to have work hard for a living. I have no sympathy for him at all! A lot of people I know in the city would crawl over broken glass if they could "work hard" like that.
