A deeply divided contingent of more than 1,200 Republicans has gathered at a Sparks casino to elect delegates to the national convention in Tampa, Fla.
Within an hour of the convention being gaveled open, accusations of fake ballots, scuffles over seating and brief disagreements over rules erupted.
Overall, however, business proceeded rather smoothly with a delegation that seemed tipped toward Texas Rep. Ron Paul, who is scheduled to speak this afternoon.
Josh Romney, whose father Mitt Romney is the presumed GOP nominee, gave a brief speech to the crowd, focusing his attacks on President Barack Obama.
“This is a very important state for us,” Josh Romney told the crowd, which applauded politely but didn’t erupt into raucous cheers. “We’re campaigning hard here, we’re going to continue to campaign hard here.”
Romney won the Nevada caucus on Feb. 4 with 50 percent of the vote.
But despite coming in third, Paul’s campaign has been organizing to control the state convention and elect a majority slate of national delegates. It’s part of a state-by-state strategy to send enough delegates to Tampa to influence the national convention.
Romney’s forces appeared organized, positioning vote whips in bright orange hats throughout the convention hall to cue supporters on how to vote on specific motions.
But Paul’s supporters have spent months training delegates on the arcane rules governing the convention and have built an elaborate network to communicate with them on the floor.
Still, mischief ensued, with a “fake” slate of Paul delegates being circulated on the convention floor.
“Let’s be grown up folks,” said Rachel Stephens, a Paul delegate who took to the microphone to chastise delegates passing out the “fake” slate.
“I don’t care if Romney wins legitimately, but if he wins because of fake stuff, I have a problem with that,” she said.
With leadership like this, what did we expect?

If the Paul supporters win because they knew the rules better than the Romney folks, will you support the Paul people, or the Romney people?
Simple answer to my question please, then you can return to the hyperbole of a politician.
As an independent voter and conservative, I will support Mitt Romney.

Its to bad Republicans are to stupid to run their own convention. Leave it up to the "Moonies" to be the spoilers at the convention. Ron Paul stands no chance of being elected President or Vice President, is in his 70s and should go home to Texas and retire. Of the 600 plus bills he sponsored during his tenure in the House only one passed. He got the Congress to deed the old Post Office in Galveston to the city historical society. A vote for Paul is a vote to reelect President Obama!
If you don't like where our country is at right now and where it is headed then perhaps the very man you need as president is one whose advice has not been taken and whose bills have not been passed. I personally take Ron Paul's struggle to get bills passed as a good indicator that he is proposing something very different than the status quo.

By now voters , delegates who lean Pub must know that we are facing a real danger in the Obama Admin. and Congress. It is inane to vote for Ron Paul now and confuse the real issue: the real villain that must be defeated in Nov. is not Mitt or Ron or any Pub but the Reid Senate, Bama and the Dems up and down the ticket. Voting, splitting , being silly when the only real unified way is for Libertarians, Paulites if you will, Indies,Reagan Dems, Reagan Dems to vote Mitt and Pub candidates. These Dems , NV and elsewhere are not your regular Dem of JFK, Truman, Scoop Jackson, Sam Nunn types. These are radical Marxists and it is too late to play around with pols who cannot stop the Dems and will not win. Unite and go after the real enemies: the DNC types of which Bama and Reid personify.
I wouldn't expect a bunch of right-wing wackos to run a circus any other way. I mean, most are working class stiffs who think making rich people richer will help them. LMAO
As an independent that typically votes Democrat, I would support Ron Paul.

I asked you a question.
You gave an answer that had nothing to do with my question. You could have given your personal preference in an additional sentence.
Therefor, you are just as bad as the next one. I took you out of my bookmarked websites, and will not add you to my political collection of email subscriptions.
Moral of the story: If you want to be the guy ridin into town in a white hat, don't run over the people who may have helped you.

My answer:
The majority of Republicans in Nevada support Mitt Romney as do I. He is the only Republican who can beat Obama. I did not take part in the convention because I re-registered as a Non Partisan when McDonald was elected chairman, so what's happening in Sparks does not concern me no matter whether the Paul people win or not.

Sorry you had to ditch your party over this guy. He does seem to be an odd choice.
I hope you can overcome this bitterness to be a stronger voice for moderation in the Nevada republican party.
