Nellis airman critical after fall into elevator shaft

Luxor

An airman from Nellis Air Force Base is in critical condition after falling about 25 feet down a Luxor elevator shaft early Saturday morning, Metro Police said.

Two airmen from Nellis Air Force Base got into a fight Saturday around 3:30 a.m. in the Luxor’s west tower’s first-floor lobby, according to police and Nellis Air Force Base officials.

During the scuffle, one man was shoved against an elevator door that came open, police said.

The man dropped around 25 feet down the shaft to the basement level, police said. He was taken to University Medical Center in critical condition.

Metro’s violent crimes section is investigating the incident.

Spokesman Gordon Absher of MGM Resorts International — which owns the Luxor — has released a statement regarding the incident:

“We are cooperating fully with law enforcement and state investigators as they conduct a thorough examination of the circumstances of this weekend’s incident. Our thoughts are with the injured serviceman and his family at this time.”
