Those planning hiking trips or picnics this weekend can expect cooler weather with highs in the 70s, according to the National Weather Service.
Thursday’s high temperature at McCarran International Airport reached 83 degrees after an average morning low of 52 degrees, said Jim Harrison, meteorologist with the weather service.
Parts of the south valley reached as high as 85 degrees, Harrison said. The normal high for this date is 72 degrees.
Today and Saturday are forecasted to post highs in the upper 70s and lows in the upper 50s, with sunny skies and mild winds of 10 to 15 mph coming in from the south, he said.
On Saturday, those going to the Mount Charleston area can expect low- to mid-50s, Harrison said.
The predicted high for Red Rock is 73 on Saturday, with light winds, said Harrison, adding that Lake Mead should expect high temperatures in the low 80s on Saturday.
But winds blowing from the south might make sailing choppy, Harrison said.
“It’s not going to be a boating weekend,” he said.
