Western valley elementary school on lockdown as police seek hit-and-run suspect

Clarence Piggott Elementary

A search for a hit-and-run suspect has caused Clarence Piggott Elementary School to lock down Friday afternoon, according to Metro Police.

Metro Spokeswoman Laura Meltzer said the school, 9601 Red Hills Drive, was on lockdown as a precaution as police searched for a suspect they believed fled a hit and run in the area.

The school was locked down about 1 p.m.

Meltzer said a witness followed the suspect until police arrived. The suspect then fled on foot and police are in pursuit.

Police said they have the suspect’s car. Meltzer said no injuries were reported in the accident, only damage to vehicles.
