The five most dangerous intersections in Las Vegas

Dangerous Intersections

Defensive-driving techniques could come in handy near several Las Vegas intersections leading the pack for traffic collisions with injuries.

The latest six months’ worth of data from Metro Police shows the northeast valley intersection at Lamb and Charleston boulevards snagged the No. 1 spot for most injury collisions. There were 19 such accidents at that intersection from Sept. 2, 2011, to March 6, 2012, the collection time frame for the data.

Tropicana Avenue proved a popular location once again for injury collisions — with two locations near the Las Vegas Strip corridor.

Two Sahara Avenue intersections also made the list, one in the western valley and another in central Las Vegas.

A Sun analysis in July 2011 identified three of the same intersections that made the most recent list: Tropicana Avenue and Koval Lane; Tropicana Avenue and Paradise Road; and Lamb and Charleston boulevards. The previous story used data for the first six months of 2011.

Strap on a seat belt. Here’s a look at the most recent top five Las Vegas intersections for collision injuries:

    • Lamb Boulevard and Charleston Boulevard

Metro Police recorded 19 traffic accidents involving injuries at this busy northeast valley intersection. Retail centers, food joints and gas stations surround the intersection.

    • Maryland Parkway and Sahara Avenue

This intersection is one of two along Sahara Avenue that makes the top five list. Situated just north of Las Vegas Country Club, the Maryland Parkway and Sahara Avenue intersection had 13 injury collisions.

    • Tropicana Avenue and Paradise Road

This intersection serves as an artery linking traffic between McCarran International Airport and the Strip. Police recorded 13 injury collisions at this intersection, which makes it tied with the Maryland Parkway and Sahara Avenue intersection.

    • Morning commuters make their way through the intersection at Rainbow Boulevard and Sahara Avenue Wednesday, June 30, 1999. A recent study has named the intersection one of the most dangerous in the country.

      Sahara Avenue and Rainbow Boulevard

There were 12 injury collisions at this intersection, the only western valley location to make the top-five list.

    • Tropicana Avenue and Koval Lane

Locals and cab drivers know Koval Lane can be a short cut to destinations around the Strip. Apparently, the Koval Lane and Tropicana Avenue intersection is also a hot spot for injury collisions — nine in the past six months.
