A three-term former Clark County School Board member, Republican Ruth L. Johnson, will challenge Commissioner Tom Collins for the District B seat, which represents much of the northeastern county.
Were she to win, Johnson would join Susan Bager and Mary Beth Scow as former school board members on the County Commission.
Others who have filed to run for Collins’ seat are Warren Markowitz of the Independent American Party and Republican Jon Blackwell.
Friday is the last day for candidates to file for commission and statewide contests.
Other commissioners up for re-election are Steve Sisolak, Larry Brown and Lawrence Weekly.
Brian Brassfield, Independent American Party, has filed to run against Sisolak; Brown faces two Republican candidates, Gary Hosea and Craig O. Lake; and Weekly is up against Republican Wesley Cornwell.

Based on what I've seen and heard about him, it'd be good to see Collins go. Seems like he's part of the good ol' boy network that's holding this town back.
What the County Commission doesn't need is another former Clark County School Board member. We have seen what these School Board members have done by giving us a failed school system. We certainly don't need any of them on the Commission.
When Tom Collins voted AGAINST accepting the low bid on the Hwy. 215 improvements in his own district, he betrayed every one of his own constituents and cost Clark County taxpayers millions of dollars.
The project was delayed two long years, meaning those of us unfortunate enough to live in Tom's district continue to face traffic delays.
The Hwy. 215 improvements would have been finished by now if only Tom had voted to accept the low bid originally.
I'd gladly vote for ANYONE but Tom Collins!
I hope voters will remember how Tom burned his own constituents just to steer the Hwy. 215 project to his personal "favorite" contractor.
Tom has done and will do a bunch of good here.
Keep this worn out hag out of the county commission, she is worthless on the phony school board and will only make things worse on the county commission.
I am excited that Ruth Johnson decided to run. I grew up in her school board district and I am proud of the way she handled the difficult struggles that are a constant part of our school district. Anyone interested should check out her website (http://www.ruthjohnsonforcountycommissio... ) to see all the good she has done for our community so far!
