New I-15 access road alters traffic near Russell Road, I-215

Freeway access

Motorists may need to make changes to their normal commute, as an Interstate 15 southbound access road south of Tropicana Avenue will open on Wednesday.

According to the Nevada Department of Transportation this aspect of the Interstate 15 Design Build South project will offer a safer way for travelers to access the freeway.

An access road enables motorists to merge or exit the main road without weaving into faster traffic, transportation officials said.

Access to Interstate 215 westbound from I-15 southbound is among the changes.

Motorists must enter the access road just south of Tropicana Avenue to connect to the freeway, transportation officials said.

Motorists traveling to Russell Road from I-15 southbound will use the access road as well as travelers headed westbound on I-215 from I-15 southbound, officials said.

Tropicana Avenue and Russell Road traffic will also be able to enter I-15 southbound, I-215 eastbound and I-215 westbound through the access road, officials said.

Motorists are advised to be aware of speed changes of 45 mph to 35 mph around access road curves, officials said. The access way does not affect travelers headed from I-15 southbound to I-215 eastbound.
