NASCAR Weekend 2012
As the Sun's editors began planning coverage of last year's Las Vegas NASCAR races, questions kept circling around how we should write about our community's most-famous racing exports, Kurt and Kyle Busch, and do it in a way that would be both fresh and fun.
Then it hit us: The Sun has one of most amazing editorial cartoonists in the nation and he loves NASCAR. We should have Mike Smith turn our newspaper's front page into a "comic book" that tells the story of the Busch brothers' rise to fame.
Then something else hit us: The Sun also has one of the best local news websites in the nation, known for pushing the envelope. What if we took our editorial cartoonist's "comic book" and animated it so that it could come alive on the Sun's site.
Well, the rest is history. Except that we loved it all so much, we decided to update it and run it again this year.
