An accident on Interstate 15 northbound involving a Republic Services garbage truck just north of the spaghetti bowl closes the right lanes. Fire crews were on the scene extinguishing a fire in the rear compartment of the vehicle Wednesday, June 27, 2012.

A load inside a Republic Services trash truck caught fire this morning as it was heading northbound on Interstate 15 at U.S. 95, causing authorities to close one lane of traffic on the heavily traveled road.

Trooper Loy Hixson of the Nevada Highway Patrol said the fire was reported about 8:40 a.m, and troopers moved to close the lane at 8:45 a.m. The fire was extinguished, and the blocked lane was reopened at 9:49 a.m.

Traffic is backed up in the area.
