The Clark County School District certainly doesn’t have its priorities straight. It recently announced that it is allocating $3.8 million in taxpayer money to continue funding a for-profit, out-of-state company, Edison Schools, to operate in Clark County. This, in spite of the fact that after 11 years of effort, those schools have repeatedly failed to increase student performance. Money that the district claims it doesn’t have to pay teacher salaries is being wasted on Edison instead of being channeled to provide local salaries and benefits for dedicated teachers in schools where student performance is increasing.

I agree with the letter writer. There were high hopes and expectations for Edison Schools [aka Project/Learning] all of which have been unrealized. Now, CCSD is merely throwing good money after bad.

I notice that the name Dwight Jones was not mentioned in this article. His recent connection with Edison, with their current staff and with their billing department along with their 'subsidies' may have been fair game for this article to explore.
Not saying he is still being paid directly for sending funds to his friends, but merely recognizing the close relationship with his previous relationships and ongoing friendships could make a difference in how he is viewed in handing them these fairly lucrative, high-profile accounts.
