Juvenile ID’d as mother of baby girl whose body was found in trash bin

A juvenile who hid her pregnancy and birth of her baby from friends and family has been identified as the mother of the baby found Wednesday morning in a trash bin in the northern valley, Metro Police announced this afternoon.

In a news release issued shortly before 5 p.m., Metro spokesman Bill Cassell said investigators believed the baby girl was born about a month ago at the juvenile’s home. The Clark County Coroner’s Office is trying to determine whether the baby was born alive or stillborn.

A maintenance worker discovered the body about 8 a.m. Wednesday in a commercial trash bin at the Rancho Mesa Apartments, 2881 N. Rancho Drive, near the North Las Vegas Airport. It was not immediately clear if the baby’s mother was a resident of the apartments.

Officials said no arrests have been made as of yet, and that the case was still under investigation.
