Fire at apartment complex displaces three residents

A laundry room fire today at the Charleston Pines Apartments in the eastern valley displaced three residents, said Tim Szymanski, spokesman for Las Vegas Fire & Rescue.

Firefighters responded just after 8 a.m. to the call at the two-story apartment complex at 4820 E. Charleston Blvd. The fire was climbing the wall of the laundry room and spreading toward the attic, and firefighters were able to knock it down in less than 10 minutes, Szymanski said. If the fire had spread to the attic, all of the apartment's rooms would have been damaged, he added.

The fire originated in a wall between a ground apartment unit and the laundry room, Szymanski said. The three adult residents of the unit are being assisted by the American Red Cross. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. A damage estimate is unknown at this time.
