Interpret the law, not the effects

In a Sunday Sun letter, “The health care debate continues,” Roger Warrick declares that Justice John Roberts did his job by “listening to his conscience.” I would point out that the job of the Supreme Court is to interpret the law in view of our Constitution. The job is to interpret the law on its legal merits, not its effects.

Politics should not enter into the issue, but neither should an interpretation of whether an issue is good or bad for some group.
