Letter to the editor:

If you build it, they will come

The discussion about building a new stadium for UNLV and possibly an arena (which would be either on the Strip or downtown) brings up the key point of getting newer events to the valley. The number of visitors could expand if newer events were drawn here, providing we had proper venues to hold such events like NFL exhibition games, Republican and Democratic conventions, etc.

If a brand new stadium were constructed, the NFL surely would consider hosting exhibition games on an annual basis here. If the NFL were to play games in the valley, maybe tourists would be more likely to spend money in the sports books.

Another event that could be drawn here by building a newer venue is Comic-Con, which is currently held in San Diego every July. Comic-Con attracts between 120,000 and 130,000 people annually. It would book the majority of the hotel rooms and increase hotel/casino revenue.

The Las Vegas Valley can further tourist numbers by attracting these events and doing this through building a new venue like those proposed.
