Michael Morton's downtown venture

Restaurateur and nightclub owner Michael Morton is the latest Las Vegas entrepreneur to look downtown for new ventures.

Morton is planning to open a tequila/rock-'n'-roll bar serving Mexican food near Fremont and Sixth streets.

Morton, whose father, Arnie, founded the Morton's steakhouses in Chicago, moved to Las Vegas 11 years ago to run N9NE Steakhouse, Nove Italiano and nightclubs at the Palms and later the La Cave wine bar at Wynn Las Vegas.

The yet-unnamed downtown eatery is set to open later this year in a building owned by Tamares Las Vegas Properties, which owns interests in other downtown destinations, including the Plaza Hotel & Casino.
