Letter to the editor:

Issa’s witch hunt wastes tax dollars

The Republican Party started its descent into oblivion in the mid-1990s when its leaders in Congress pushed for a special prosecutor to pursue a vendetta against someone they did not deem qualified to be president.

The special prosecutor spent millions of dollars to investigate President Bill Clinton and found out that he was unfaithful to his wife. Not a good use of taxpayer money in my opinion.

Jump ahead 15 years to today and the Republican Party has a new witch hunter, Rep. Darrell Issa, who has failed to find any of the criminal behavior he said was prevalent in the Obama administration. Recently he has found a way to waste taxpayers’ money and root out bogus wrongdoing by seizing on the fact that Attorney General Eric Holder had provided some incorrect information regarding a Bush-era policy of “gun walking” arms to Mexico.

With Fox News being used as Issa’s promotional outlet to keep the conspiracy theorists interested, the American taxpayers are again going to be stuck with another multimillion-dollar tab for another partisan attack with no merit. If Issa really wanted to know what went on, he should call the people in the Bush administration who ran the gunrunning operation.

It is somewhat ironic that the Obama administration resisted investigating the Bush administration’s decisions leading up to the Iraq war, and that Obama’s attorney general is being persecuted for yet another Bush administration failure.
