Suspects in pawnshop heist arrested at Las Vegas hospital

An armed robbery Monday at a Las Vegas pawnshop touched off a sequence of events that ended with the arrests of four suspects who ducked into a northwest Las Vegas hospital after being spotted by authorities, Metro Police reported.

The situation, which culminated at Centennial Hills Hospital, began when an anonymous person called dispatch at 9:04 a.m. Monday and reported seeing at least one masked man enter the SuperPawn in the 6800 block of Cheyenne Avenue, near North Rainbow Boulevard, police said. Later, the caller saw two people run out of the business, police said.

Officers responded but arrived after the suspects — described as three men and a female driver — had left the area, police said.

Acting on witness tips, police caught sight of the suspects’ vehicle near Centennial Hills Hospital, Metro spokesman Marcus Martin said. The hospital is about seven miles north of the pawnshop.

The vehicle turned into the parking lot, and the suspects ran into the hospital, Martin said.

Police followed the group into the building, where four individuals were arrested in connection with the armed robbery, Martin said. Police credited alert citizens and good detective work for the arrests, which occurred before noon.

During the armed robbery, the three men allegedly smashed glass cases inside SuperPawn and stole jewelry, guns and cash, while the woman waited outside in the getaway vehicle, Martin said.

The hospital was under lockdown during the situation. As of early Monday afternoon, police were conducting a precautionary search to make sure all suspects were in custody, Martin said.

No injuries to citizens were reported during the incident. It appears one suspect cut his himself on glass during the robbery, Martin said.

Police have not released the suspects’ identities.
