Gov. Brian Sandoval: any of the GOP candidates would ‘make a great president’
Friday, Jan. 27, 2012 | 4:35 p.m.
CARSON CITY -- Gov. Brian Sandoval will attend a Republican caucus in Reno on Feb. 4 but he won't back any of the GOP candidates for president.
Sandoval, who endorsed early the candidacy of Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who has dropped out of the race, said any of the remaining candidates would "make a great president."
He said he will wait until the national GOP convention, when the party makes its choice official, before backing a candidate.
Asked if he was turned off by the bitter campaigning among the candidates, he called it "part of the process."
Sandoval was mentioned by former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney during a debate this week as a potential cabinet member in a Romney administration.
Sandoval said he intends to serve out the rest of his term.

Shows what an idiot our governor is.
Thankfully we elect a President only once every four years. Without regard to party, everyone should be happy there is no open season on stupid.
Any of the remaining candidates? Really?!?
I'd consider proposition that Romney or Paul would be no worse than Obama (and that isn't saying much) but Gingrich and Santorum couldn't come close.
No, Governor Sandoval, you can't walk this back.
You were a stalwart backer of Perry.
Too late.
You went nutball.
Nobody to blame but you.
YOU did it.
YOU ARE stuck with your decision.
WE WON'T ALLOW YOU TO CHANGE YOUR MIND.
Don't matter if you are playing the political winds in hopes of moving up, in the eventuality that Romney becomes President, to have a Presidential appointment to be the Head of Parking Lot Attendants at the White House.
Knock off the political crap, Governor Sandoval.
It would be more refreshing if you addressed problems in the Sovereign State of Nevada. And quit pursuing being the point man for Jones Vargas lobbyists for mining consortiums on a national level.
"Any of the GOP candidates would make a great president". What kind of imbecile would even make a comment like this? Santorum? A total bigot, homophobe, anti-abortion, anti-everything right-wing radical who has NO CHANCE OF BEING THE NOMINEE FOR PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!!!!. Paul? An anti-government lunatic who's idea of the relationship between government and reality would put this country back to the 19th century. Gingrich? A bloviating narcissistic egomaniac without at clue. Romney? An uber-rich elitist with no idea what confronts the average american working man/woman in this country. As I have posted before, Sandoval is a political hack who's sole purpose in life is to achieve higher political office.
Dude, Mitt all but offered you a cabinet post and you still want to sit on the fence. DUH?
"said any of the remaining candidates would "make a great president."
Bull[bleep]
That could not be MORE wrong.
He said he will wait until the national GOP convention, when the party makes its choice official, before backing a candidate. Translation so I won't look like an idiot again!
He will come out and say Yall chose the same one I did.
At least Ron Paul is a man with principals. I'm a democrat, but I'm not scared of Ron Paul. If Gingrich wins, Canada, here I come.
Can you imagine a Mitt Romney, Brian Sandoval ticket? If that ever happens, invest in hairspray companies.
This coming from a guy who endorsed Rick Perry. Brian Sandoval is a complete idiot.
Frankly I feel that as an ex Republican now Independent the few remaining true Republicans have no where to go and no one to blame but themselves.
They have by their actions denigrated the office of The President of the United States. People like Trump, Bachmann, Gingrich and recently Jan Brewer have done this .In order to gain attention for themselves they have said and done outrageous things that have resulted in embarrassing this country through out the world.
Does anyone realize that the rest of the world is not like us and frankly find it extremely offensive to have a woman wave a finger in the face of the President of the United States.
I for one find that type of behavior despicable. Yet you will not find one single Republican say anything even though they know this is not right.
What the Republicans don't understand is that they are destroying our way of life . A democracy has to have choices . By their actions they are destroying the Republican party and their is no one left who can offer a sane and reasonable alternative if we need one. Fortunately we don't need one at this time as President Obama is a sane and well balanced individual and will despite the problems of the day will be handily re elected.
This must be a leap of Faith, and a big leap at that.
He is all for the party . To him the party is more important than the state of Nevada . Just go back to his appointment of Heller to the senate .By this action he cost the state millions to pay for another election to fill Heller's seat in the house .Is that a action of a governor looking out for the state first or the party first? He could have appointed any other republican and saved our state millions. Is that a fiscally responsible leader ?
Sandoval backed Perry. What more do we need to know?
I would agree with Brian IF he left out the Eft,Ron Paul and ..oh never mind!
The Governor is as big a putz as the candidates. They deserve each other.
LOL: The fact that he supported Rick Perry verifies his questionable judgement. The fact that he got elected verifies Nevada citizens are functioning in a diminished capacity.
I bet he is still "yearning" to be a VP pick by his comment, just a feeling..
"Any of the GOP candidates would 'make a great president'... why yes ... great president of Somalia(limited government) ... great president of Iran(theocracy) ... great president of Monaco(plutocracy) ... great president communist China(totalitarian dictatorship with no labor unions).

Can or do, you believe Governor Brian Sandoval's statement of, "Sandoval said he intends to serve out the rest of his term."???
As ColinFromLasVegas put it, "Don't matter if you are playing the political winds in hopes of moving up, in the eventuality that Romney becomes President, to have a Presidential appointment to be the Head of Parking Lot Attendants at the White House."
The Commenters here are certainly intelligent enough to recognize that Governor Brian Sandoval, if given the opportunity, and especially with the prospect to become a Vice President, let's say, will, once again, have a wind (blizzard, hurricane) of change on his position.
From the album of Bob Dylan, Slow Train Coming, "You Gotta Serve Somebody..." we are "on" to whom this Nevada Governor serves!
Blessings and Peace,
Star
