City Government:

The Henderson City Council will meet tonight to screen 11 candidates for the open Ward 3 council seat and to potentially choose a replacement for former Councilwoman Kathleen Vermillion , who resigned the position earlier this month.

The special city council meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall, 240 S. Water St.

Each candidate will have the opportunity to make a three-minute presentation and then answer questions from the council.

After screening all the candidates, the board will debate the selection in an open meeting and possibly choose Vermillion's replacement.

Fourteen candidates initially filed to be considered for the open seat, but three — Kurt Faux, Fred Honere and Thomas Haugh — have dropped out in advance of tonight's meeting.

The eleven remaining candidates represent a variety of career and volunteer experiences.

Among the candidates are two members of the Henderson Planning Commission, a Henderson Chamber of Commerce board member, an attorney, a retired banker and a retired educator.
