Man dies after driving van off road outside of Las Vegas

Incident

A 50-year-old man died Friday after driving his van off the road and into a desert area about 25 miles northwest of Las Vegas.

Metro Police say the incident happened around 4 p.m. near Cold Creek Road west of U.S. 95.

The man was driving a 2002 Dodge Caravan when he drove off the road, police said.

The Dodge traveled through the desert area toward the prison from Cold Creek Road, police said.

Once the van stopped, the driver exited and collapsed to the ground, police said.

Responding emergency crews were unable to save the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Police say the driver may have suffered a medical episode.

The cause of death and the man’s identity will be determined by the Clark County coroner's office.

The incident remains under investigation by Metro’s accident investigation section.
