GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum addresses supporters at his Iowa caucus victory party Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012, in Johnston, Iowa.

A day after his last minute near win in Iowa, Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum has hired staff in Nevada to put together a turnout operation for him in time for the Feb. 4 Nevada caucuses.

Zac Moyle, the former executive director of the Nevada Republican Party who recently moved to Pennsylvania, said he has been retained as a general consultant for Santorum’s Nevada campaign.

Moyle, who had been searching for presidential clients, provided a Nevada plan to Santorum’s campaign late last year. He said he has hired Dave McGowan, a former Clark County Republican Party operative, and his son Jeff McGowan to carry out the day to day work.

Santorum campaigned heavily in Iowa and spent little money there, essentially tying former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney on Tuesday. Santorum, a former senator from Pennsylvania, lost by just eight votes.

Santorum becomes the fifth candidate to hire staff in Nevada. Romney has spent considerable time building a campaign organization in Nevada, as has U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas. Former U.S. Rep. Newt Gingrich has brought on two Nevada staffers, and retired businessman Herman Cain had Nevada staff before he dropped out of the race last year.
