Detectives concluded the first phase of their investigation into a Wednesday morning fire that destroyed a construction site of a Muslim cemetery and funeral home.

The Clark County Fire Department and federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Fire plan to finish processing the scene tonight, according to Clark County officials.

“This was a very large and destructive fire, and fire investigators have spent the last two days sifting through the debris,” said Clark County Fire Chief Bertral Washington, in a news release.

Evidence collected from the scene will be analyzed to find out what caused the fire at 4425 E. Cartier Ave., officials said.

Sixty firefighters responded to the blaze that engulfed the two-story development and caused an estimated $1.5 million in damage, officials said.

ATF was notified due to the scale of the fire and that it was on a religious property, officials said. At the end of the investigation, officials will release the results of their findings to the public.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 385-5555.
