It could’ve become an escalating, all-out war of words on Twitter, but new Hard Rock Hotel resident DJ Pauly D played nice guy after Motley Crue’s Nikki Sixx blasted the “Jersey Shore” reality TV star. Both appeared under the same HRH roof Saturday night.
It began with Nikki’s slam from the Joint against the new Rehab and Vanity resident DJ: “DJ Pauly D. What a trend-jumping douche. What’s next? Is Snooki gonna do a rock album?”
Now Pauly -- my interview with him about his residency was posted last Wednesday -- could have fired back just as nastily, but he took the high road and received raves for being a lover, not a hater. His Twitter response: “Big Motley Crue fan! I don’t understand the Language of Hate. I just speak Love.”
So far, silence from Nikki, who packed up his stuff when the group’s residency ended Sunday night. Incidentally, Pauly D will be there all summer long. I report, you decide, as they say at Fox News.
WICKED WHISPERS & RACY RUMORS
Paris Hilton celebrated her 31st birthday with sister Nicky, parents Rick and Kathy and her boyfriend Grammy winner DJ Afrojack at XS in Steve Wynn’s Encore and hit a $35,000 blackjack. Trustees of the Estate of Michael Jackson say among several projects being considered is a 25th-anniversary version of the album “Bad” that could possibly see the return of his memorabilia exhibit at Mandalay Bay.
A two-hour History Channel magic special featuring the world’s lost magic tricks is in the works with a magician who wants to play the Strip. And which TV personality had to be moved to a private room at Spearmint Rhino because of her celebrating state with the sexy female dancers?
FIRE TRICKS: Rio headliner and magician Penn Jillette was “Power Ranked” high-scoring male on the debut episode of “Celebrity Apprentice’s” Season 12 on Sunday night. Critics noted that most of the star cast hung out on the sidelines, but Penn drummed up business for the competing sandwich shops by performing fire-swallowing tricks on the sidewalk. He is playing for our beloved charity Opportunity Village.
Former supermodel Cheryl Tiegs was the first celeb to be fired on the new season. Regular Las Vegas visitors competing on the show include comedienne Lisa Lampanelli, former “Peepshow” headliner Aubrey O’Day, comedian Adam Carolla, Twisted Sister rocker Dee Snider, Teresa Giudice from “The Real Housewives of New Jersey,” racecar driver Michael Andretti and motorcycle makeover mogul Paul Teutul Sr. Wynn sports book odds maker Johnny Avello has 8-to-1 odds on Penn finishing fourth.
FROM GRIDIRON TO PAWNSHOP: San Diego Chargers linebacker Shaun Phillips visited Gold & Silver Pawn on Monday. Shaun, a fan of the History Channel hit “Pawn Stars,” met Corey “Big Hoss” Harrison and Richard “The Old Man” Harrison as they broke for lunch from cameras filming a new episode. The guys talked football as Corey gave Shaun a VIP tour. Shaun picked up several “Pawn Stars” T-shirts.
UP YOURS! The Improv at Harrah’s has launched a search for the next great comedian with the online voting contest “Up Yours!” No joke, the finals take place at Harrah’s on April 1 with the winner getting $25,000 in bookings at the Improv and Harvey’s Lake Tahoe. Six finalists take the stage April 1, and I will be a guest judge to see who becomes America’s next best comic.
STAR SURVEILLANCE
Country superstar Shania Twain and actor Chazz Palminteri were at Cirque du Soleil’s the Beatles Love at the Mirage in separate groups. Chazz, who brings his one-man show “A Bronx Tale” to the Terry Fator Theater at the Mirage from March 12-20, enjoyed dinner afterward at “Iron Chef” winner Kerry Simon’s restaurant Simon in Palms Place. Also at Simon: Big Hoss enjoying a 35-day, dry-aged ribeye and Death by Potato with Makers Mark and Sprite. Flamingo headliner Marie Osmond, Magic Johnson and hair king John Paul DeJoria attended the 27th annual Caper hair convention in Caesars Palace, entertaining 2,500 future hair professionals with Robert Cromeans, global artistic director, and “Salon Takeover” host Tabatha Coffey. I read Mayor Carolyn Goodman’s proclamation of Paul Mitchell Day in her absence. I couldn’t resist running this photo of Neil Patrick Harris with the Gazillionaire and Penny Pibbets at “Absinthe” that we reported Monday. The “How I Met Your Mother” star tweeted, “@AbsintheVegas. Wonderful show, acts are fantastic. Most importantly a must-see!”
TONIGHT’S TIPS
Entertainers from Chippendales, “X Burlesque,” “Divas Las Vegas,” “Legends in Concert” and “Peepshow” ride the fantasy floats at Show in the Sky at the Rio to celebrate Fat Tuesday. Mardi Gras is celebrated hourly at the Orleans with a jazz and Dixie band parade, plus free beignets and champagne. Psychic and spiritual teacher Sylvia Browne celebrates her 50th anniversary tour with a mini residency at Imperial Palace through April 12. Joe Starr, Tony Camin and Ahmed Baroocha headline at the Improv through Sunday. The Bob Fosse tribute at Ovation at Green Valley Ranch benefits Golden Rainbow. And DJ Mord Fustang spins at Fancy Sauce at Moon in the Palms.
TOMORROW’S TEASE
Flamingo headliner Marie Osmond reveals two dreams of a lifetime come true, Caesars Palace headliner Celine Dion returns to the Colosseum, plus “Bizarre Foods” host Andrew Zimmern, who doesn’t blink at scoffing down nearly anything.

That's just stupid of Nikki Sixx to say... yes... Motley Crue rocked the the Hard Rock all this month. Outstanding show! Pauly D appeals to a slightly different audience, yet still a big part of the Hard Rock's (and Las Vegas') demographic.
Of all the Jersey Shore cast, Pauly D seems to be by far the coolest. Why go there Nikki?
In the words of Laura Ingraham, the culture of Jersey Shore and MTV are now the sewer of America. In my day, LV spoke of Frank Sinatra, the Rat Pack, great entertainers, great musicians, movie stars, etc.,. MTV had excellent videos and you knew the talented artists they featured. Now the Sun reports on the likes of Pauly D, Paris Hilton, Snookie, and God know who else that ended up in a reality show. Maybe you can do a feature on that intellectual black guy with a clock around his neck and the whores who tried to marry him. What ever happened to him. The world wants to know. Incredible.
