Metro Police arrested Marion "Suge" Knight, 46, in connection with marijuana possession during a traffic stop Wednesday in the western valley.

Marion “Suge” Knight, former head of Death Row Records, was arrested for possessing marijuana during a traffic stop Wednesday, Metro Police said.

Metro spokeswoman Laura Meltzer said the stop occurred at 5:34 p.m. Wednesday in the 4000 block of Arville Street in the western valley.

A record check during the traffic stop revealed that Knight, 46, had three outstanding warrants in Las Vegas related to traffic offenses, Meltzer said. The patrol officer then found marijuana in Knight’s possession, she said.

Knight, who played defensive end for the UNLV football team in 1985 and 1986, was arrested and booked in the Clark County Detention Center in connection with the warrants, an unsafe lane change and nonmedical possession of a controlled substance less than 1 ounce, Meltzer said.

Knight was later released from jail on his own recognizance, police said.

Knight, co-founded Death Row Records in 1982 with Andre Young, better known as Dr. Dre. The label has produced such rap stars as Snoop Dogg and Tupac Shakur.

  1. Not paying 50 bucks to a Traffic attorney to get your tickets gone from one of those Vegas Speed Traps is not smart. Marijuana should be Legalized and Police Focused on Real Criminals. The Money being wasted for the enforcement of Crazy laws is insane. However soon the Republican Presidential Candidates would imprison women for taking Birth Control and this will create a whole new level of insanity.

  2. I think he played football for UNLV in the 80's....can anyone confirm that?

  3. he did. not sure what years.

  4. Arrested? Really? Of all the people that Metro and Henderson cops kill during traffic stops, they let this guy live?

  5. If you read the article you will see he played football for UNLV in 85 and 86.

  6. "It's not the significance of the infraction, it's the "I can do whatever the hell I want" attitude."

TomD -- no, it's the "Bill of Rights" attitude. And you misapplied that "I can do whatever the hell I want" attitude. It's the usual Metro bullies-with-badges swagger.

Since nothing is mentioned in this article about how the weed was discovered, I have to assume it's Metro's usual complete defiance of their oaths to support, defend and protect the Fourth Amendment and its state equivalent, and they looked for it anyway.

  7. Gee, who could have seen that coming?

"The guys had more run ins with the law than could be counted."

TomD -- I'd love to see what you have to say when YOU find yourself in government's crosshairs, whether it be a "criminal" record, revenue or code enforcement. The hard truth sheep like you fail to understand is our government at every level has discarded its fundamental limits, turned predatory upon the very body it was Constituted to serve, and is actively on the hunt for every one of us. And next time resist getting personal with me in your posts -- it not only lowers the tone here, it just ousts you as being childish.

  9. zodiac:

He was not only arrested for the marijuana but for the oustanding warrants. You get it now?

Impressive post, Killer but.....you're making a mountain out of a molehill. This dude was stopped for some sort of a traffic related thing - could have been as mundane as a broken tail light. Metro found marijuana in his car. They then ran his plate and found he had outstanding warrants. This Suge guy obviously never paid previous violations and warrants went out. Bingo!!! He is taken into custody and goes to jail because of these warrants. That is how it is done in Las Vegas (and just about anywhere else).

Most people pay their traffic citations. Some don't especially if there are multiple citations. They are like this guy. Can't be bothered. When I did the traffic citations at my Vegas firm, I KNOW that Metro will bust you for any outstanding warrants. Not necessarily will they "book" you, but you will be hauled in and until you pay up, you stay there. They don't look the other way.

This "Could be on The Maury Show" Brother had SEVERAL warrants out for his arrest. That says it all. It has nothing to do with the gov't or police trampling our rights. You either pay your tickets or warrants go out and if caught, you go to jail. THAT is THE law. Very easy to interpret and understand.

Det_Munch -- if I recall correctly from another Discussion, you're the guy who works for the cops, posting here on the taxpayers dime. It's no surprise you conveniently skipped the part about the unwarranted search and seizure. Until they're spanked, the local cops skip over it as inconsequential. Despite their oaths to support, defend and protect those limits, the Vegas cop attitude is the reverse of what it's supposed to be -- we're expected to fear them.

"I'm interested to know exactly what laws you want banished from the books?"

TomdD -- since no laws have been cited here, and because I repeatedly post the particulars of the Constitutions fascists like you repeatedly ignore, remind me exactly how I'm supposed to accept this police state you want to live in?

"The Fuhrer is always right." -- Joachim von Ribbentrop, the 1939 Konigsberg address

  12. "You do a dis-service to those who lived thru the holocaust when you call the USA a "police state"

TomD -- almost didn't see your latest flame hiding there in the untrusted comments section.

"...Mr. Speaker, my subject today is whether America is a police state. I'm sure the large majority of Americans would answer this in the negative. Most would associate military patrols, martial law and summary executions with a police state, something obviously not present in our everyday activities. However, those with knowledge of Ruby Ridge, Mount Carmel and other such incidents may have a different opinion." -- Rep. Ron Paul, from a June 27, 2002, speech on the floor of the House
