It’s no secret that Las Vegas boasts an array of entertainment options, but StubHub, the world’s largest online ticket exchange, has determined that the city is home to some of the biggest music fans in the country.
Las Vegas placed fifth on its “Most Rockin’ Cities” list for 2011, based on gross ticket sales per capita. The top event for the year was determined to be the iHeartRadio Music Festival.
The list was released as part of StubHub’s 2011 Concert Ticket Sales Report, the first annual review of concert sales on its Web site StubHub.com. Hartford, Conn., took the top spot, although it should be noted that the city is home to the ticket seller’s central offices.
Boston was second, followed by Miami, Atlanta and Las Vegas, respectively. Despite an overall decrease in the prices of concert tickets, StubHub reported that 2011 marked its highest number of sales yet, a 29 percent increase since 2007.
Las Vegas has increasingly become a tour destination for musicians and fans alike. Next week marks the debut of another music festival in the city, the two-day Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Beauties & Beats Music Festival at the Cosmopolitan. The event features up-and-coming indie acts including the Black Lips, Delta Spirit and White Denim.

The resorts, City & County need to work aggressively with promoters to continue to attract more festivals like this. And concurrently work with supporting service & production industries to set up permanent shop here. LV has the potential to become the north american focal point for entertainment -- Hollywood meets Broadway meets Mardi Gras -- we just need leaders with the vision & drive to make that a reality.
Wow, that's some really loose use of the word "Rockin'" considering all of the distinctly non-rock acts that make up the survey. How about calling it "Most individuals dancing while performing second-rate music city"...or is that too wordy :-/
