A woman was arrested in connection with drunken driving after an accident Sunday in the southwest valley left a 24-year-old man dead, Metro Police reported.

Veronica Arana, 33, was arrested on a count of DUI-alcohol resulting in death and booked into the Clark County Detention Center, where she remains without bail, according to jail records.

Police said Arana was driving south on Rainbow Boulevard near Wigwam Avenue at 8:48 p.m. when, for unknown reasons, she veered left of center and began traveling in the northbound lanes. The 2003 Toyota 4Runner she was driving collided head-on with a 2004 Ford Mustang being driven by the 24-year-old man, causing a secondary impact with a 2011 Honda Pilot.

The identity of the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was being withheld Monday morning pending notification of relatives.

A 17-year-old girl driving the Honda suffered minor injuries, police said.

Arana was transported to University Medical Center’s trauma unit for moderate injuries, but she was later released and arrested, police said.

The accident was the 13th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction this year and the second serious DUI-related accident Sunday.

Noel Lardeo, 26, was arrested in connection with DUI resulting in substantial bodily harm after police said she drove her car into a bus shelter Sunday morning on Spring Mountain Road, striking a teen boy waiting nearby.

The 15-year-old boy was transported to UMC with critical injuries, police said.

  1. "Skank didn't almost kill someone..She killed a 24 yr old male."

LV89147 -- no she didn't. The pic is of Laredo, who sent a teenager to the hospital in critical condition. Check that @ http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2012/feb...

This article is about Arana, who killed this young man with her car. Beyond sad.

Lately it seems the biggest menace on the roads are impaired women drivers.

desert_e -- and namecalling puts you on that same level. Do attempt to grow up when posting here. Otherwise enduring you is part of the price the rest of us pay for free speech.

All of us as citizens may wish to re-examine that new misdemeanor cell phone law -- by that logic, a flurry of articles like this could result in a new law criminalizing women drivers in Japanese cars.
