This weekend’s Super Bowl — or as our resorts call it “The Big Game” — may have been played in chilly Indianapolis, but it sure packed some Las Vegas heat.
From Strip star Elton John to local residents Vince Neil and Flavor Flav, from UFC legend Chuck Liddell to Cirque du Soleil choreographer Jamie King, the whole event had just enough Nevada naughtiness that it was no wonder singer M.I.A. showed the crowd her favorite finger.
Here is the Sun’s look at the Super Bowl’s ties to Las Vegas:
-
Motley Crue and Chuck Liddell
Hard Rock headliner Motley Crue, along with lead singer and Las Vegas resident Vince Neil, provided the soundtrack to Kia’s tribute to all things manly. It featured UFC legend Chuck Liddell delivering an explosive head kick to drive home the point. Watch the commercial here.
-
Elton John
Caesars Palace headliner Elton John was the piqued purveyor of Pepsi in the soda company’s Super Bowl spot. But the last word came from Flavor Flav, a classic clock collector, who uttered his appreciation for the knighted pop star’s prison presence with his signature two-word exclamation. Jamie King of Cirque du Soleil
The creative director behind the Super Bowl halftime show was Jamie King, who directed Cirque du Soleil’s “Immortal” Michael Jackson show, which debuted in Las Vegas in December, and will lead Cirque’s upcoming resident Jackson show at Mandalay Bay. It could not be confirmed whether any French Canadian acrobats with Nevada drivers licenses were part of the super troupe.

Cee Lo Green
Cee Lo Green joined Madonna onstage at halftime, and — according to the Sun’s Robin Leach — is negotiating for a Strip headlining gig. Green also just recorded a new "What Happens in Vegas Stays in Las Vegas" spot for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. Watch the video here.

Flavor Flav
Henderson resident Flavor Flav not only made an appearance with Elton John in a Pepsi ad, but he also showed up on the field after the game to celebrate the Giants’ victory.Watch the video here.
