For the first time in recent memory, a weigh-in featuring Nick Diaz passed without incident.

Diaz and opponent Carlos Condit both came in at 169 pounds at the Mandalay Events Center before Saturday’s interim welterweight championship bout at UFC 143. Diaz and Condit stayed far apart while posing for their stare down photo.

No shouting or shoving took place; unlike many of the weigh-ins Diaz has taken part in over the years. Diaz has pledged respect for Condit leading up to their fight.

He proved that he meant it Friday. But Diaz didn’t necessarily enjoy hitting the scales in front of media and fans.

He scowled during most of the process and gave a cryptic final comment before walking off the stage.

“I’m ready to take my (butt) whooping,” Diaz said. “It’s whatever.”

Despite some scattered boos from the pro-Diaz crowd, Condit spoke in a more positive tone.

“Nick Diaz is the toughest guy I’ve ever fought,” Condit said. “I’m as prepared as I’ve ever been. I can’t wait to get out there and do this thing.”

The only bad blood at the weigh-in occurred between the other two welterweights on the main card. After Mike Pierce tipped the scales at 170 pounds, he threw on a curly blonde wig to mock opponent Josh Koscheck’s hairstyle.

Koscheck, who also weighed 170, wasn’t amused and forced his face into Pierce’s before UFC President Dana White broke the two apart.

Neither Condit and Diaz nor Pierce and Koscheck shook hands. Renan Barao (136) and Scott Jorgensen (135) embraced briefly after a close-quarters stare down photo ahead of their bantamweight clash.

“This is going to be a good fight,” White mouthed as a smile stretched across his face.

It’s rare to see two heavyweights weigh the same amount, but a trimmed Roy Nelson and Fabricio Werdum both came in at 246 pounds.

UFC 158
Nick Diaz fails to back up years worth of talk

UFC 158 A welterweight title fight that felt incredibly different wound up remarkably the same. Georges St. Pierre manhandled nemesis Nick Diaz with his wrestling. St. Pierre won every round on every judges' scorecard in Montreal for his sixth straight unanimous-decision victory. Diaz had preached his superiority over St. Pierre for years, but when he finally got his chance, he looked as helpless as all the other challengers to the 170-pound division's throne in the last six years. St. Pierre's consistency continued to amaze. Now it's on to Johny Hendricks, who defeated Carlos Condit in the evening's co-main event. Could he be the one to finally threaten St. Pierre?
