For Dean Heller, a ‘fresh start’ in Senate comes at frenetic pace

Sen. Dean Heller looks at this new year as a fresh start — to the extent that anyone actually can have one in a place like the Senate when you’ve already been hanging around for a year and a half. “I want it to feel like a fresh start, but it really hasn’t because we have so many issues,” Heller said during an interview this month in his office. “It just doesn’t slow down. So it’s kind of hard to take that deep breath you think you deserve after such a campaign.” Heller, the Republican appointed to fill out John ...

  1. How does Heller reach out to women when he continues his love affair with big business and the radical right at their expense?

  2. Let's see. Lied about his opponent to get elected, then votes against a treaty to help people with disabilities. I'd say Heller fits in very well with the Republican caucus: he hates humanity.

  3. IMHO Senator Heller is all smoke-and-mirrors when it comes to the issue of online poker. He proved that earlier in the year when he abandoned Sen Reid's attempt to get the issue before the Senate.

All his "talk" is just that... talk.

In the last election, I didn't vote for either of our Senate candidates... one had more-than-just-questionable ethics investigation(s) hanging over her head and the other (Sen. Heller) doesn't give two squats about poker players in Nevada.

  4. Dean's a good guy... caught-up in a broken system.

  5. In reality, the poker bill will create only enough jobs to barely fill a stretch limo. It's principle objective is to funnel funds back to politicos who, in turn, give the Wynns' and Adelsons more American $$ to send to Macao.

What we really need is to get more federal lands here into the public domain so that now dormant millions of acres can turn into producing jobs for more than the already filthy rich.

The Smith Valley copper enterprise is a start but we also need to develop more of our natural resources into tourist destinations outside of Vegas.

  6. He got the votes and is in. Now Senator Dean Heller must prove his salt in representing the concerns of the People of Nevada, and not the elite industries of Nevada. Is he a dyed in the wool Republican, who is lock step? Time will tell.

Online poker is happening everywhere else in the world, and the USA needs to get with the program.

Maybe illegal immigration can be "handled" differently. Suppose the USA cuts a deal with Mexico, and uses Baja Mexico as a type of place to send/deport those who are NOT legally in the USA to get their paperwork and permission for entry and residence process approved. While there, they can become literate, learn the laws of the USA, and perhaps gain some respect towards Americans and their culture. Their DREAM children can stay in the USA to prove themselves, with them staying/living with sponsors who are legally in the USA. For the scale of the problem, something drastic must be done. Our country is going downhill every day we delay. If this sounds like interment camps, it is not quite that, as these people are occupying the USA ILLEGALLY now---which is a criminal offense. Huge difference.

Women faced inequitable treatment since the beginning of time. We live now in a world where women should have the same opportunity as anyone else, to work and receive fair compensation, purchase goods and products on equal footing, as well as housing. Much of the battle lies in culture, philosophy, and religion, which is old as time. Areas that women need support the greatest, is with healthcare. If they are not well, how can they care for their homes, children, work for a living? Society stills puts the load on the woman to be the primary caregiver.

Our educational system is broken and I wish Senator Heller would pay attention to that. Nevada needs someone who will represent our needs in education in Washington, D.C., and get the job done. Enough land swapping so mining and other interests are forever prospering, while education in Nevada, the children who are Nevada's future, suffers!

Have a Happy New Year 2013 everyone!
    Blessings and Peace,
    Star
