RENO — Chris Ault raised Nevada football. After 28 years as coach, he felt he had taken the Wolf Pack as far as he could. Ault announced Friday he was stepping down, leaving as the winningest coach in school history, already a Hall of Famer, and having changed the way teams play offense nationwide. Under Ault, the Wolf Pack went from Division II to I-AA to I-A, winning at every level with some of the most prolific and innovative offenses in the country. The 66-year-old won 10 conference championships and took the Wolf Pack to the postseason 16 times, including ...

UNLV Athleic Director Jim Livengood better be on a plane right now heading to Reno.
Hahaha..... UNR and not Nevada ......
There's a college in Reno? Wow. Must be a nice school.
San Jose State goes from 1-11 to 5-7 to 11-2 - so the excuse of UNLV is what? Ault would never come to UNLV, it is a nice dream. His leaving after all of these other Coaches have lined up jobs and his main recruiting area - has Stanford - Bowl Team, San Jose State - Bowl Team, Cal with new Head Coach - horrible timing and they better have a name ready to go for recruiting.
Why Hauck has been given so much time and a contract extention - with Utah State, San Jose State building their programs up over the same span of time and then some - he should be thanking his stars that he is still around. Turning around UNLV into a 6-6 team is not impossible.
The Real University of Nevada Located in Reno is indeed a fine University
The Biggest Little Coach in the World has been a bane in the existence of UNLV football fans for decades - myself included. More importantly though, he has made the football program at the little mining school up north relevant in the paradigm of college sport. That, folks, is no small feat.
As much as I want to see UNR lose on a weekly basis, I truly admire the work of Chris Ault. I see him in the same light as I do Bill Snyder and Hayden Fry: Coaches who win consistently where no one else can, and do it without scandal or shame upon their institution.
Congratulations, Coach Ault on an extraordinarily successful career. In the history of the State, I believe your name should be mentioned in the same breath as the McCarrans, Binions, and Rieds of the world. You've earned it.
Perhaps now we will see the Fremont Cannon painted red every once in a while.
