A grim discovery Thursday in the northern stretches of the Las Vegas Valley has authorities trying to determine whether the case of a missing 10-year-old is now a homicide. Authorities say a man walking his dog today in an unfinished housing development near North Fifth Street and Dorrell Lane in North Las Vegas wandered upon the body of a small, black female. They would not describe the injuries of the deceased. Capt. Chris Jones of Metro’s homicide division would not confirm the body was that of 10-year-old Jade Morris, who has been missing for six days. Nor would Jones describe ...

Very sad,
Brenda Stokes(aka)Williams was arrested for possession of cocain on 20121103
Someone knew about this and you still release your child for a day out with a crackhead?
Another child that can't control their own destiny is taken by modern day ACLU society!
I don't understand what this has to do with the ACLU.
@Byorca17 - Only the bad guys have rights when it comes to the ACLU.
Very sad story. I hope this woman gets what is coming to her in prison. The justice system certainly won't give it to her.
"Stokes also told police she visited her doctor earlier in the week, feeling like she needed to be admitted to the hospital because she might hurt someone, the report said." - from the story
Who the hell is her doctor?!? He should be hit hard by the family with a wrongful death suit. And then the state medical board needs to take a look.
Deepest sympathy to the family.

I thought the casinos have zero tolerance for drug use/possession/arrest. Why was she at the Bellagio working.
what's the deal with multi alias' in this town? Everyone arrested has a couple names. This girl had no chance in the company of these individuals.
"Another child that can't control their own destiny is taken by modern day ACLU society!"
BeSafest -- do explain what your problem is with this private group existing to defend civil liberties.
"Who the hell is her doctor?!? He should be hit hard by the family with a wrongful death suit."
boftx -- her doctor didn't kill anyone. And you're not aware of the doctor-patient confidentiality privilege?
"Primum non nocere" -- Latin for "First, do no harm"
"I thought the casinos have zero tolerance for drug use/possession/arrest. Why was she at the Bellagio working"
Possibly the start of her going Bonkers!! Happened last month! Might of lost her job cause of it?
I have signed ACLU petitions regarding internet and email privacy, etc. so according to BeSafest I must have contributed to this child's death. How will I ever live with myself?

KillerB,
This has nothing to do with doctor-patient confidentiality. She told police she told her doctor she should be put in a hospital. That sounds a lot like a request for voluntary commitment.
Given all the other stories lately it is highly relevant.
Sad day inded...
That poor girl.
besafest;
what in God's name are you blathering on about?
She is trying to lay the ground work so she can claim to be insane! She won't help the police in the childs disappearance, She cuts a co-worker, And now we should believe that she allegedly told some doctor about her wanting to hurt people and s/he did nothing. Well I don't think she told anyone anything about wanting to hurt others. She may have went to the doctor but I would wager she never never declared what she now claims.
She wants everyone to pay for her shame or scorn.

This was the question I immediately wondered about when I heard about the attack. Why was this crazy woman still at work?
I hope that she experiences the full weight of the consequences for her evil actions to both her co-worker and especially for the innocent baby she killed.

What has happened here is a well thought out and calculated plan by Brenda. I believe she researched her options and calculated her game plan to do the most damage. This woman spoke to many people to get back ground information before acting. Her visiting a doctor was an attempt to establish an insanity plea not a plan to reach out for help. I believe if the police speak to some more people who knew her, they would find the real woman behind the cold hearted murder and attack. It is not just about revenge....Brenda has someone in her ear feeding her informatiin to ignite this horrible act. The nature of the act is so evil to involve a child into the issues Brenda had with Joyce. We all have things in life that have hurt us. If we all went around slashing and killing as Brenda did, what kind of a world would this be. Yes, what she did to Joyce was unforgiveable and what she did to little Jade, cold and calculating.
Do we really know people we work with, live with, grow up with?
As far as the doctor goes, just because the murderous skank told Metro that she said that to her doctor doesn't mean it's necessarily true.
Reporting requirements are also pretty specific.
"I feel like hurting people" is not necessarily reportable, while "I'm thinking about killing my boss" is. The difference is a specific threat against a person.
@BeSafest, how would the Bellagio know she got arrested for coke? It's not like Metro calls your boss when they bust you. I don't know about you, but if I got arrested, I'd be unlikely to share that information with my employer.
With the way this town protects casino interests I figured the first call from Metro would have been to her boss.
"I don't know about you, but if I got arrested, I'd be unlikely to share that information with my employer."
My Bad ... unless you have held a security clearance or were on Personnel Reliability Program, you wouldn't understand.
@BeSafest, I don't know what a Personnel Reliability Program is. Do they hire people to actually pull up every arrest record for every employee at random intervals? MGM corp. employs an awful lot of people. That seems like an expensive endeavor (if that's what the term means)
I forgot earlier to express my heartfelt sympathy to the family of the little girl. I can't imagine letting my child go out with a trusted family friend, having her run a bit late and then hearing what Stokes did at the Bellagio on the news. I believe this all happened on the same day.
They must have been absolutely horrified.
Maybe MGM can interface with the whosarrested.com site to get that info on a daily basis. I would think casinos would want to know if any of their employees were arrested on some type of felony not reported in the papers. Unless they do background checks on employees on a regular basis, they could potentially have a lot of employees with criminal records.
I knew a guy who got hired by MGM as 1 of 15 other potential hires. He got the job because the other 14 failed the background check.
This case is disturbing as we once again have a small defenseless child in the hands of people who have no business raising a child. This girl didn't stand a chance.
What makes you say that about the family, Tom? The suspect was the father's fiance and had been around the child for four years. The mother said she trusted her and that the child sometimes referred to the suspect as her step-mom.
The father was working out of state at the time of the incident.
If he was cheating on his fiance, that's not nice, but if you are really pissed you slash his tires, not his daughter.
What a horrible woman.
No normal person goes around and slashes someone's face with a straight edge razor. My intuition tells me this woman is no stranger to suspect behavior. Whether mom and dad missed that behavior will likely come out. Anger issues manifesting into violence on this level? I usually go on the side that signs of some sort were there and were either ignored, dismissed or overlooked in the name of love, companionship and or guardianship.
Oh, I forgot to add that the website mentioned is essentially a shakedown site, in my opinion. You can have your listing removed for a fee.
An arrest doesn't necessarily make you guilty anyway. Can you imagine the lawsuits if they started firing people for arrests that ended without a conviction?
Sometimes bad stuff happens and we try to make sense of the senseless because we are good people and cannot wrap our heads around these things.
@ Tom, sometimes we also have a tendency to rationalize ourselves out of our gut instincts. Gavin De Becker wrote about that in "The Gift of Fear" He said there are always signs, so I agree with you there.
This is such a sad story. As soon as I heard what that woman had done and read about the connection to the missing girl, my intuition kicked in too.
Agreed....I'm a "where there's smoke there's likely fire" type of person and I don't wait around to see if the smoke dissipates. I'm long gone. Life is too short. Obviously there are cases where no such signs exist but again I think those are the exception...the rare exception.
It's hard to disguise all the signs of regular drug use - the mother/father of this little girl must certainly have been aware that the person they were entrusting their child to was a drug user - what kind of parent does that? I have to agree with Tom D. when he says this child didn't stand a chance - with so-called 'parents' like that she DIDN'T stand a chance. Kids need their parents to protect them - not send them out 'shopping' with a drug user :(
@VegasNative2011 "Only the bad guys have rights when it comes to the ACLU."
I dare you to cite a single instance where the ACLU argued against the Constitutionally protected rights of a "good-guy."
Do you consider cops the "bad guys?" Here are just a dozen or so examples of where the ACLU defended the rights of police officers, including some right here in the Silver State. http://bit.ly/WYj5Ud
@BeSafest... Gmag39 seemed confused and wondered. "what in God's name are you blathering on about?"
Your response could not have been more clear...

While I doubt you would have been banned if you had simply stated you were making absolutely no sense because you were completely wasted on Gin and Juice, I did enjoy your little scavenger hunt nonetheless.
@BeSafets at 5:40pm:
WTH are you talking about? And please.... no one with any amount of intelligence really puts a lot of reliability on youtube videos - except the ones about peoples' pets!
<<@BeSafest, how would the Bellagio know she got arrested for coke? It's not like Metro calls your boss when they bust you. I don't know about you, but if I got arrested, I'd be unlikely to share that information with my employer>>
@Next_Opinion: Casinos do a background check AND fingerprint you for that reason - to see if you are in the system for being arrested. I once applied for a part time job at the Hilton gift shop and had to do the whole 9 yards before I was actually hired - drug test, fingerprinting, etc. Why would the Bellagio be any different?
But Munch, they do that before hiring. She already worked there.
She used razor blades to attack the co-worker according to news accounts.
We should require background checks for all purchases of razor blades.
People should be required to only own one blade at a time.
They should be dull blades too.
so, anyone who holds a gaming card, who is subsequently arrested isn't automatically flagged? if she was arrested in november of 2012 for possession, the gaming board & her employer aren't notified? really?????
"The Clark County Coroner's Office will release the identity after an autopsy is performed on the body, but Jones indicated in all likelihood the youngster was dead."
Who proofreads these articles??
Not the first Perp to do the crime, without regard for victims, so they can get something. Some want food and shelter for the winter. Some want more government programs, half-way houses, substance abuse counseling with benefits such as job assistance, food stamps, apartments, furniture. Anyone who commits violent crime must be permanently removed from society having forfeited her/his rights.
Just another Obama troll making some lame excuse to justify what she did or didn't do and why she needs some mo' of that special treatment they get.
This obviously isn't her first rodeo and she knows how their system works. What a waste of time and energy for y'all to think the Dr. or anyone is at fault, she is guilty, and she deserves to be nuked.
How did Obama come into this?
