WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama has nominated Sen. John Kerry as his next secretary of state, saying Kerry's entire life "has prepared him for this role."
If confirmed, the Massachusetts Democrat would succeed Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton in Obama's second-term Cabinet.
Clinton did not attend the Roosevelt Room announcement. She's recovering from a concussion sustained in a fall.
Obama said Kerry's political career and service has established him as a respected American voice around the globe. Obama said Kerry will not need on-the-job training.
Kerry has served as chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and is a decorated Vietnam veteran who was critical of the war effort when he returned home to the U.S.
He has represented Massachusetts in the Senate since 1985.

We'll see if he is a good choice for the country in the near future. I would have liked to see his work in the case of Corporal Jon Hammar. This news paper didn't carry the story, and probably unless you watch Fox news you hadn't heard about it. But thanks to Bill O'Rielly, who called the president and secreatry of state out, this army veteran is being realeased from a mexican jail, one that he's sat in since August while our president and secretary of state sat on their thumbs. Mr. O'Reilly saved this young mans life by exposing that travisty.
Kerry will do what he is told. Time flies, I recall when john was shaking down a used car dealer, for a free oldsmobile, Bob Breast on the Lynnway, jon boy sure has moved on from the free olds, marrying wealth widows, moving his yacht around to dodge taxes, he is a cheap con man, nothing to worry about, an empty suit, Rice would have been better.
