A Las Vegas firefighter has been indicted, along with a homeless man he's accused of hiring for the fatal hammer slaying of the firefighter's estranged cocktail waitress wife.

George Miguel Tiaffay's lawyer, Robert Langford, derided the indictment handed up Friday as "outrageous" and based on the grand jury testimony of "deranged" co-defendant Noel Stevens.

Prosecutor Marc DiGiacomo and Stevens' lawyers declined comment.

Langford said Tiaffay intends to plead not guilty at arraignment Jan. 3 in Clark County District Court.

The lawyer also filed documents Friday seeking Tiaffay's release on bail pending trial.

Tiaffay is accused of giving Stevens $600 and the key to Shauna Tiaffay's apartment weeks before the 46-year-old mother of an 8-year-old daughter was killed Sept. 29 as she returned home from work at the Palms Casino Hotel.
