Single-vehicle accident on Beltway kills 32-year-old woman

A 32-year-old woman died after she was involved in a rollover accident earlier Friday afternoon on the Las Vegas Beltway. Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Loy Hixson said the accident occurred about 1:05 p.m. near the Beltway and West Sahara Avenue. Hixson said the woman was driving a Ford Explorer southbound on the Beltway when she lost control of the vehicle and it went off the right side of the road. At that point, the vehicle overturned and the woman was ejected. She was taken to University Medical Center, where she died, Hixson said. Witnesses told investigators the Explorer was traveling ...

  1. "at a speed faster than the flow of traffic," --- A polite way to say she was driving way to FAST and NO seatbelt!

  2. Serial speeders in this town will never evade the law or death. If you speed on a regular basis on Las Vegas roads you do have speeding tickets. That's just a fact. The police here are just very adept at catching you, and they will. The best are the cops who sit on the 215 overpasses and aim their radar gun to the traffic below with an armada of motorcycle cops on the ramp waiting for their cue. Sounds like this girl was speeding and not wearing a seatbelt. A bad mix.

  3. Was she wearing a seat belt?. How do you get ejected if the doors are closed?

    Something doesn't look right here.

  4. @Bob635, doubtful she was wearing a seatbelt. Out the windshield I'm sure.

  5. Isn't that about where Red Rock casino is? Perhaps another intoxicated person leaving a casino. I have said numerous times, there needs to be a crackdown on enforcement of our Alcohol Awareness Policy which states that any person involved in the serving of alcoholic beverages needs to attend training and acquire an alcohol awareness license. After which, those persons are responsible in addressing over extended patrons by discontinuing service of alcoholic beverages to said patron.

  6. All the little statists out in force clamoring for more government. More laws would have protected this woman, for sure. Maybe Obama will convene a committee to ban SUVs? Squeal my little government worshipers, squeal.

  7. Wow...a single car accident is turned into a rant against Obama? Just wow.

  8. TomD...

    Small minds.
    Teeny weenie.

'The Beltway' is considered by some to be nothing less than the Las Vegas version of the Autobahn.

That particular stretch is a big money-maker for the NHP; they're out there daily. If you're a regular on that route and make a habit of 'going faster than the flow', you are just trolling for the flashing red & blue lights.

  9. Simple solution to EJECTIONS were your seatbelt thats what they are for!!! when is this great state of Nevada going to pass a law to make you were it. Studies have show over and over again seatbelts SAVE LIFES. Make it a primary law instead of a secondary law, espically the way people drive here.

  10. Wait....do you hear that???? The liberals talking about outlawing cars,....cars kill people...we can outlaw cars, baseball bats, guns, knives, spoons, fire works, fire for that matter, do you libs actually see how foolish you are????
