Valley prayer services to pay honor to shooting victims

Religious groups in the Las Vegas Valley will continue to conduct services in the aftermath of the mass shootings last week at an elementary school in Newtown, Conn.

The Islamic Society of Nevada has scheduled a prayer service in memory of the shooting victims at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. The service will be open to the public at the society’s mosque, 4730 East Desert Inn Road, Las Vegas. For more details, contact the mosque office at 702-433-3431 or 909-489-5989.

At 1:30 p.m. Sunday, there will be a prayer service for the shooting victims at Guru Nanak Gurdwara Sikh Temple, 4487 E. Russell Road. For more information, call 702-465-5974.

On Friday, a gunman forced his way into the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, then shot and killed 26 schoolchildren – none older than 7 – and teachers before killing himself. Earlier, he had killed his mother at their nearby home.
