As a former active member of the legal bar, I am delighted every time I see a news item complimenting someone on an accomplishment that I know was due to the advice of a lawyer. Although there have been times recently when a lawyer’s advice was used against a client in print and on TV, the article on how Sheldon Adelson is spending his money to influence people in his favor is a testament to the advice he received from Shelley Berkley. He just extended it from the Clark County commissioners to the Republican candidates and would-be candidates on a ...

Pointless
Simply pointless
The SUN should read these letters before they get posted
Actually, some of best friends are lawyers: Dead ones.

I wonder why Berkley acted like scum at times....she is a lawyer.....that explains it all.
When Shelley Berkley at one time a employee of Sheldon Adelson give him political advice, she was labled corrupt by Republicans. Mr.Adelson's campaign contributions to the Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and other Republicans was said to be in the millions. How should we lable this?
Typical liberal hypocrisy, they can't stand "big money" influencing American elections, unless of course, that big money is strictly going into the pockets of the Democrat Party.
Sam, Sam, Sam, do you not know the difference between legal bribery and illegal bribery? It's perfectly legal to bribe politicians with "campaign contributions." It is illegal to offer their relatives jobs in order to ensure you will receive favorable treatment when you come before them with a proposal, for a contract or for licensing purposes. Berkley was a "wanna-be-felon" without morals, ethics and honor and we are all better off that she has been given the boot. In Malkin's letter to the editor, we see the mindset of how "professionals" in the "law business" really operate. Little wonder why attorneys rate lower in public esteem than do used car salesmen and journalists.

You can start with very generous and proceed to patriotic.

Jerry,Jerry,Jerry,I have not seen or heard of Shelley Berkley being convicted of any wrong doing or crime, only political bull being said by the Republicans.
In 2008 Rep.Shelley Berkley D-Nev.worked hard in saving the kidney transplant program. At that time it was not an issue that she did anything wrong in saving the program. However 4 years later (2012) Republicans made it a political issue because she was running for re-election against Republican Dean Heller who won the election.
The Republicans have called for a house ethics committee investigation into whether Shelley Berkley used her office to benifit her physican husband's finincial interests. She will ultimately will be cleared of any wrong doing of this witch hunt carried out by Republicans.Don't believe everything you read or hear.
This letter and the responses are political nonsense. Our two parties and our elected representatives are bribed every day, by wealthy people like Adelson, powerful corporations and business groups, unions, special interests, etc.
Instead of defending some parts of the legalized bribery system and criticizing other parts of it, depending on your party of choice, why not actually do something to lessen the power it has to corrupt our entire system?
TERM LIMITS, PUBLIC FINANCING OF CAMPAIGNS AND LOBBYING REFORM.

Let's clear up some things.
Berkley did not give Adelson legal advice but political advice. She was not his lawyer nor was any lawyer-client privilege involved.
She told Adelson that he should give work/jobs/business to local political officers in exchange for their votes.
She also told Adelson to give campaign money to judges because she said their rulings can be purchased with campaign money.
She is a hero of the Democratic party.

Both Dems and Reps in June 2012 voted to investigate Berkley for potential ethics and conflict of interests violations regarding her actions on the Kidney Center. I have no doubt, none whatsoever, that this bipartisan action to hold hearings to investigate her was instrumentatal in her loss to Heller with the voters. Whether the Congress continues to do so [investigate] is moot, since she lost. But if they don't this investigation will loom large over her in the future if she decides to run again for public office. And voters have good memories Sam.

Carmine,I would almost bet $1,000 to a donut that this ethics inveatagation of Shelley Berkley, will not take place. Or if it does she will be found to have had no conflict of interest.Politics is always working even while we sleep.
Sam:
I won't take that bet but I will the donut! And a cup of Joe to wash it down.
