Las Vegans, like many other Americans, shared their reactions to a shooting at a Connecticut elementary school Friday morning. Here is a sampling of some of the thoughts they shared.

Tighten the School Security..That's it!.. If we can protect and send troops to other country for their freedom and security...why not here..We have this Seal Team...Swat Team in every states..Delta Force..FBI...CIA..Local Police..State Police.. & other elite forces...Why we cannot protect our own SCHOOL?..Increase Police visibility in every school..Thats basic to law enforcement 101..PREVENTION & DETERRENT WERE THE BEST PROTECTION.
Next question is: What & Where will be the next School that will be the target of this Crazy people?..Are my own children, relatives and friends children will be the next victim.???..Stop the drama...do something about it..Hire more School Police.. Place...assign & station them in every school like 24 hours a day..and the minimum requirement for every school will be 150 School Police..like 50 school police on duty every shift...Your making more job in every state and county and making it safe for our children. Do it!..Spend more budget/money for our school and children protection.. not that feaking war out there in other countries!

Armed security in our elementary schools? How about banning assault rifles instead?
Ya gotta love the Archie Bunker mentality of some people who say arm all the teachers. Just like the mentality of stopping hijackings. Arm all the passengers. Great, 120 people shooting up an airplane that explodes and kills everyone.
Same applies to arming teachers who have no training in swat tactics, egaging a violent situation or disarming someone....and think they'll be Dirty Harrry or Robocop if the situation presents itself. Just asinine. This kid had emotional problems by some accounts yet mom (may she rest in peace) kept an arsenal of high powered weapons in the house. Where's the responsibility to society? Those guns should not have been in that home. Period.
This is so very, profoundly sad. While teaching in my classroom, a colleague stopped by and informed me. By some coincidence earlier this week, I had addressed my class about the need to follow adults in authority directions during a crisis event, to save lives. This week's incidents in Oregon, and at a jewelry store here in Las Vegas, demonstrated WHY it is important to know how to behave and possibly survive such terrible events.
As we and our nation grieves the loss of innocent children, let us become more mindful that such events exist, and we would do well to be proactive and prepare. Also, our society needs to revisit how we are assisting those with mental health issues, so we may avert such tragedies.
