6 residents displaced by apartment fire

Fire

Three adults, three kids and a dog were displaced from their apartment near Tropicana Avenue and Maryland Parkway after the kitchen caught fire Thursday afternoon.

Clark County spokeswoman Stacey Welling said the county Fire Department arrived at 5006 Wilbur St. around 3:30 p.m. Flames were bursting out of the first-floor apartment window. Only a female occupant and a dog were home at the time, Welling said.

The woman was able to evacuate safely, and firefighters helped rescue the dog. Firefighters were then able to put out the fire quickly and prevent it from spreading into other apartments, Welling said.

Welling said the fire caused $50,000 in damage, most of which was confined to the kitchen. No one was injured, and apartment management is working to relocate the occupants, Welling said.

Firefighters are working to determine a cause of the fire.
