NLV fire destroys home, sends one man to hospital

A North Las Vegas man was transported to University Medical Center with minor injuries after a fire destroyed his house on Monday.

About 2 p.m., the North Las Vegas Fire Department responded to a fire at a single-story house on the 3700 block of Perliter Avenue, near Lake Mead Boulevard and Pecos Road.

Firefighters observed heavy smoke and flames coming from the home when they arrived. They were able to extinguish the fire within 10 minutes of arrival.

The home is a complete loss with significant smoke and fire damage estimated at about $185,000, officials said. The Red Cross is helping the man and his family while they look for alternative housing.

The fire remains under investigation. Eight units and 24 firefighters from North Las Vegas, Las Vegas and the Clark County fire departments responded within three minutes to the fire, officials said.
