CARSON CITY — Traffic deaths in Clark County are up this year and the state, as one solution, is going to push to toughen its seat belt law, officials said. The Nevada Department of Transportation is also advocating more DUI check points and additional public service announcements. Director Rudy Malfabon presented statistics to the state Board of Transportation on Monday showing that 88 people have been killed in traffic accidents in Clark County this year, an increase of 54.4 percent over last year. There have been 37 pedestrian deaths in the county, up 37 percent from the same time of ...

By all means make sure everyone is wearing thier seat belts so they're safe when the idiots who are still talking on the cell phones cause them to have an accident.
The increase in accidents is a direct result of the cell phone law. Just like prohibition nearly a century ago, most people are not going to quit just because a stupid law is passed. Once again a "well intended" law results in unintended consequences. It should be repealed, FOR OUR SAFETY.
The most important stat that needs to be asked is how many crashes would have resulted in death even wearing seat belt. If there are more than 50% deaths wearing the seat belt then there conclusion does not make sense. Funny Utah finally told the truth this summer when they admitted that 66% of all crashes resulting in death were wearing there seat belts. Utah has same law Nevada does.
Nevada could always up their regulations for new drivers that move in to the state. As it stands if you're under 25 (I think) you take a Nevada licensure written test, but not driving test. If you're over 25 and have a license from another state no written or driven test are required.
We need to retest drivers that move here and are permanent residents, that includes vision tests. If only we could mandate a minimum IQ... and an oath to not drink under the influence, and if you do after one strike you no longer get to drive..

What do pedestrian deaths have to do with seat belts??
