A 6-year-old boy was transported to the hospital Monday after a school bus ran over his foot, Metro Police and Clark County School District officials said.
The accident happened about 6:40 a.m. on Las Vegas Boulevard near Cheyenne Avenue, police said.
Officer Laura Meltzer said the boy was taken to University Medical Center with nonlife-threatening injuries.
Clark County School District spokeswoman Melinda Malone said the rear wheel of the bus ran over the boy’s foot. She said the driver stopped and alerted authorities.
School District traffic investigators were on the scene, which Malone said is standard procedure in all accidents.

A six year old shouldn't have to be awake and out and about at 6:40 in the morning....I wonder if he was getting ready for a full day school when this happened. It's sad that we force grown up schedules on little children. I hope he makes it through.
When I went to school, my homeroom was at 7:35 AM. Going to school at that hour is not an issue. Why was the boy so close to the bus? Was the bus turning and running over the curb or did the boy basically walk into the bus?
CCSD elementary school kids are not picked up till around 8:15 - 8:30 across the valley. Why was a child that young near a running school bus at 6:40am?
Wrong, Proofus.
My elementary school kiddo gets picked up at 6:35 a.m. and returns home close to 5:00 p.m.
It's being reported the kid was running into the road, throwing rocks at vehicles and ran at the bus as the driver tried to avoid him.
Sounds like a kid heading for a bright future in juvenile court.
ShannonK....your elementary school aged child is out of your home for school for almost 11 hours of the day? Assuming he or she sleeps for 8 hours, that means he or she gets 5 hours of the day where they are awake and not at school on an average school day? That's disgusting.
Children are not meant to have adult schedules. No wonder we're failing as a country on so many levels. How can the average parent ensure their child is safely at school and then back home when the child schedule dominates the whole day like that? It's disgusting.
This poor child that was nearly killed by a bus today got lucky. But bigger question, at pre-dawn hours we have a 6 year old out on the streets, where are his parents? And where is the moral compass of our community to say, that's wrong!!?
@Ashleyashley
This "poor child" was hurling rocks at cars and darting in and out of the road. Witnesses are reporting he ran at the bus, which tried to avoid him. There's something wrong with this kid...and his parents. He's lucky he didn't kill a driver.
Beyond that, no child at 6 years old should be at the bus stop without parent supervision. This is Las Vegas, not Mitchell, South Dakota.
There's more to this story than being reported at the Sun.
