Time running out for Nevada bills to make it through Congress

WASHINGTON--With only a few weeks left in the congressional session, it’s do-or-die time for two years’ worth of bills Nevada lawmakers have filed to fix local problems that need federal attention. There are pending bills to free up federal lands for mining and declare other sections of the state as wilderness. There are bills-in-waiting to mitigate unemployment and homelessness for veterans. There is lingering legislation to help with mortgage modification. And that’s not even counting online poker — which technically doesn’t count because a bill hasn’t been officially filed. To pass all these measures is an impossible task: They are ...

  1. Well not to over state the obvious but Harry Reid is out of control

This a lame duck Congress and there is only one thing that must be done and that is to fix the fiscal crisis

Where is the Democrats balanced balanced plan.

Obama and Democrats campaigned for 9 months in 2012 on $800 billion in revenue on the back of the 2% of job creators AND $2,400 billion in spending cuts for a total of $3.2 trillion. At least that is what Obama knowingly lied about during the debates with Romney

Now Obama is FAILING AMERICA. Obama and Democrats are RENEGING on their 2012 campaign promise to make a three to one (3-1) spending cuts to revenue increases as part of the balanced approach.

  2. Let the lottery become an alternative to excessive taxation in NV. Last week CA added PowerBall to it's menu of lottery games, probably in light of the 1 of 2 winning tickets sold in AZ with PowerBall. If the NV state house does by some miracle come to it's senses and passes a bill for a lottery, just make sure the proceeds go to education and NOT into the general fund.

  3. If the repugnicans in congress had not wasted time doing everything the make the government disfunctional maybe things would have gotten done that need to be done.

    Repugnican dysfunction is hurting Nevada.

Maybe its time for a different congress.

  4. I see the Democrats chickens have come home to roost. How's that hope and change for the future thing working out??

Harry Reid is a national embarrassment who has sold us all out.

But if it makes you sleep better at night, then point your fingers at the Republicans. The voters are ignorant and now have to live with their results. Good luck.

  5. When it comes right down to it, the omnipotent Harry Reid is actually totally impotent in getting anything at all done for his "home state".

What a farce, what an Oz behind the curtain - what a total incompetent waste for everyone of us in BOTH parties that can't even get little pieces of legislation passed considering his alleged power in D.C.

  6. The one person, who has had the MOST control over this situation, Nevada Senator Harry Reid, has his priorities. Over the years, while observing, occassionaly cheering, for Senator Reid, it has become abundantly apparent that Nevada is not on the top of his priority list.

The concerns and issues of Nevadans have been horse-traded off so that he and those he serves (the Democratic Party and the Church) are least adversely affected, while all the rest are either neglected or left sucking hind teet on legislative matters. That is appauling.

The political bickering on the "financial cliff" continues to leave no hope, and a nation severely divided, with acceptable losses in its potential wake. So move on and get the work for Nevada and Nevadans done already.

    Blessings and Peace,
    Star
