Las Vegas chef to host cable TV cooking competition

Las Vegas chef Jeff Henderson is the latest to land his own cable TV cooking competition show, this time with a program on the former Game Show Network.

Henderson, a former chef at the Bellagio, appears on the premier of "Beat the Chefs" at 9 p.m. today on GSN. The show brings amateur cooks with family recipes to compete with experienced chefs for a prize of $25,000.

GSN may be found in Las Vegas on Cox cable channel 344, DirecTV channel 233 and Dish Network channel 116.

A former prison inmate, Henderson also hosted the "Chef Jeff Project" on the Food Network and has traveled the country speaking to youth and doing cooking demonstrations. He also says he’s working on developing a Southern-themed restaurant with a downtown Las Vegas casino.

Las Vegas, meanwhile, has been a center for cooking shows, including "Chopped" and "Top Chef Masters."
