Commissioner Collins pays fine, won’t face jail time

Clark County Commissioner Tom Collins pleaded no contest Thursday in North Las Vegas Municipal Court to misdemeanor charges of a noise disturbance and an animal at large.

Collins had faced charges related to two incidents on his North Las Vegas property in less than two months. On July 3, Collins had been drinking and fired his gun at a cedar tree he had been trying to cut down, North Las Vegas police said. On Saturday, his bull escaped its enclosure, going about a half-mile before animal control officers tranquilized it.

He paid $1,137 for each charge and will not face jail time, court documents said. He also forfeited his weapon as part of the negotiations to dismiss a charge for firing his gun within city limits, said Debbie Miller, North Las Vegas Municipal Court administrator.

By pleading no contest, Collins is neither admitting guilt in the incidents nor disputing them.
