Letter to the editor:

We have so much to make us proud

Praise to MGM Resorts International Chairman Jim Murren for his Where I Stand commentary, “A positive vision for the future of Nevada.” As an optimist and pragmatist, he sets the right tone for Nevada, especially Las Vegas’ emerging prosperity.

Our positive trends are:

• The economic blueprint of reform and diversification issued by the Brookings Mountain West Institute.

• The ongoing agenda of our Nevada Development Authority.

• The $2.4 billion new airport Terminal 3.

• Our new grandiose Smith Center for the Performing Arts.

• The renaissance and revitalization of downtown spearheaded by Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh.

• First Fridays’ successful arts, culture and entertainment monthly event.

• The Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health.

• The Green Chips environmental company and Green Chamber of Commerce.

And the list goes on. As Murren says, a lot has been achieved with more to be done — we’re well on our way.

In our new paradigms, I posit the following:

• Rename McCarran the Las Vegas International Airport — the name tourists (our bread and butter) and the world knows best.

• Replace the “Sin City” name with “The Crystal City.” One has class, the other does not. Las Vegas, the Crystal City where dreams, prosperity and happiness abound.

• Live our state motto: “Born to Battle — Nevada Proud!” The words are the epitome philosophy of a positive, progressive, prosperous state.

• Be a daily newspaper subscriber to know all that’s going on in and about our great city of Las Vegas and Nevada. This is necessary to be informed and actively involved in making Murren’s vision a reality.

  1. In reply to Clyde Dinkins; to paraphrase Eugene O'Neil; "When one is obsessed by a fairy tale, we spend our lives searching for a magic door to a lost kingdom."

This certainly describes your letter to the editor.

  2. Letter writer gives us a feel good feeling. Now if we can just elect a positive president in November 2012 who encourages visitors and tourists to come to our wonderful city and state rather than intimidates them into not coming.

  3. Only Carmine would take a completely non-political letter to the editor and twist and fabricate an untrue and purely lame statement against President Obama.

Apparently Carmine lives in "fantasyland" as much as this letter writer does. I wouldn't be surprised if he nicknamed the commode in his house the "Porcelain Princess"!

  4. Right on, Carmine. Only a thin-skinned person such as BChap would try to shut you up. That's the leftists way: don't like free speech; try to ban it or marginalize it. Can't wait to be rid of Osama Obama & his fellow travelers. Come November - vote Romney & Ryan!

  5. Hey Mr. Fink; could you please ask Paul "The Prevaricator" Ryan if he would send some "constituent service requests" on behalf of Las Vegas for a stimulus to benefit our imagined Crystal City? Thank you, so, so much!!!

  6. No, actually I call it the Chapline Crown.

  7. Thank you so much for clarifying Carmine. I just knew there was Republican stench hiding somewhere in the crystal house.

  8. No problem, Mr. Chapline. Petty partisan politics always make people like you think yours doesn't smell.

  9. In reply to Carmine; Democrats have a deep respect for humanity and human rights. I've not been perfect through my life. So yes, there is a slight smell. However, regarding a typical Republican like you, the foul smell is overwhelmingly disgusting.
