Driver arrested after pedestrian struck, killed on Boulder Highway

Pedestrian hit, killed

A 19-year-old Henderson woman was struck and killed by a 1995 Toyota Avalon early Saturday while crossing Boulder Highway in a crosswalk near Corn Street.

Henderson Police spokesman Keith Paul said the woman was walking across Boulder Highway about 2:10 a.m. Ricky Bonilla, 26, was driving south with a revoked license when his Avalon hit the woman, Paul said.

Bonilla, of Las Vegas, was arrested for driving with a revoked license from a conviction for driving while intoxicated, Paul said. Bonilla submitted blood to be tested for drugs and alcohol, but Paul said Bonilla did not appear to be under the influence.

Paul said preliminary investigations indicated that speed was not a factor in the crash, which is under investigation.

  1. Why is a young woman crossing a highway at 2:10 in the morning? Was she wearing light or dark clothing? Was the area well lit? Sounds like a case of pedestrian stupidity.

  2. Ashley: Many employees working for minimal wages have to walk home at whatever hour they get off work. There are flourescent, reflecting patches and clothing such as bicyclists wear--perhaps casino gift shops could stock up and sell for a reasonable price.
