Suspect in sex assault case involving two young girls faces 11 charges

Diondre Phifer was arrested late Wednesday on several charges including sexual assault and kidnapping.

Diondre Phifer was arrested late Wednesday on several charges including sexual assault and kidnapping.

A man faces 11 charges after he allegedly lured two children under age 7 into his apartment, sexually assaulted one of them and exposed himself to them on June 18.

Two girls, ages 3 and 6, had been playing outside an apartment complex pool with other neighborhood kids when Diondre Phifer approached them, according to a Metro Police arrest report. Phifer, 27, reportedly lured the girls inside his nearby apartment with the promise of money for ice cream.

Once inside the apartment, Phifer exposed himself and sexually assaulted one of the children, the report said. He also struck both of the girls, the report said.

The victims told their mother about the incident on June 20, but they did not know the name of the man other than by his nickame, “poopoo,” the report said. Before reporting the incident to Metro Police, the mother went to the apartment and confronted Phifer, the report said.

Phifer denied the incident, and the mother slapped him twice in the face, the report said. He then fled from the apartment, the report said.

The report said Phifer had also moved out of the apartment the day of the sexual assault.

The mother then reported what happened to her daughters to Metro Police, the report said. After nearly two months of searching, Metro Police detectives located Phifer at his apartment and arrested him on Aug. 15, the report said.

The report said Phifer denied any involvement with the incident. He faces two counts of kidnapping, two counts of sexual assault with a minor under age 14, two counts of battery with intent to commit sexual assault, four counts of lewdness with a child under 14 years old and one count of indecent exposure.
