Area of standoff

A nearly five-hour standoff that brought a Metro SWAT unit and crisis negotiators to the eastern valley has ended with the suspect in custody.

Police responded at 10:15 a.m. to a report of a domestic disturbance in the 500 block of North Los Feliz Street, said Metro Police spokeswoman Laura Meltzer. The victim, who allegedly had been choked by her boyfriend, managed to escape the home after police arrived, Meltzer added.

SWAT and crisis negotiators were called after the man refused to leave the residence, Meltzer said. The standoff continued until just after 3 p.m., said Officer Bill Cassell, a Metro spokesman.

During the negotiations, North Los Feliz Street between Linden and East Stewart avenues was closed to traffic, as was Linden Avenue between Benedict Drive and North Los Feliz. Police also had evacuated neighbors as a precaution.
